LUSH - Regen oder Segen? Teil 1

Hallo :)

LUSH,

The Scent of Cult

What’s going on? In our fast moving world, and the waning years of the twenty-first century, this question has become more than just a cheery conversation starter. The challenge to comprehend new trends and cults as well as technological and social change has become immense, at times overwhelming. At every point of the day we are bombarded with commercial messages and like a duck takes the water the marketing chief marketing officer’s aim to motivate consumers to buy goods, works for most people. Thus, whilst innovative products are enticingly advertised and praised, we should not forget to scrutinize what is presented. Do we have to follow all trends? Do we have to try all the new products? Do we miss out on something if we do not? Does that help to understand our complex world?

Lush is an extraordinary new company that is about passion, freshness, nature and fun. These ideas are the heart and soul of everything Lush represents. The company opened its first shop in Poole in 1994 and developed into a global brand with more than 130 shops worldwide and fabricates in Europe, Singapore and Japan, to name just a few. Their primary goal is to offer the “freshest products in the history of cosmetics”.

The passion behind all their concepts shows in its coherence. The products are made of “fresh organic fruit and vegetables, the finest essential oils and safe synthetics, without animal ingredients”. Also, the freshness is underlined by the fact that a nice and friendly salesperson will always cut the the big piece of soap just for you. Superior customer service belongs to this coherent concept as well. Once inside the shop, customers are not only attracted by the smell, colors, forms, textures and display of the product but also pleasantly surprised by the salespersons who are looking forward to helping you and attending you with a sincere smile. The shopping experiences is also intensified by the shops’ cosy atmosphere, the guest book, made of recycled paper in which customers are welcomed to express their thoughts and feelings towards Lush and its products, the chance to try out all the products, soft music, the fact that most of the goods are unpacked and will eventually be packaged environmentally friendly, but again it is the exotic scents that stimulate human senses most.

The coherent marketing plan has helped to built a successful and profitable company. Moreover, Lush has become an established Ethical Brand that fight for environmental protection and is against animal testing in cosmetics and the beauty care industry. Yet again, Lush was voted one of the best 100 companies (The Sunday Times list) to work for in England. Staff believe to protect the environment and make a positive difference to the world (75% positive score, that ranks it in the top 20 companies).

For those who share Lush’s approach to life, believe in their principles and are interested in fresh and unconventional beauty products, the company is definitely worth considering. Lush offers a wide range of products, including solid shampoos, handmade soaps, bath bombs, bubble bars, lip scrubs, solid perfumes, massage bars and natural skin care products.

One main belief, which is part of Lush’s mission statement, is that words like “fresh” and “organic” have honest meaning beyond marketing. It seems, that nevertheless, whilst the Lush experience itself and as a whole is enticing, the products, however, are not.
